Part 1 of New Encaustic Diptych by Colorado Contemporary Artist, Susan M. GIbbons

This is the first in the diptych I'm creating experimenting with horizontal and vertical orientations.  An encaustic on cradled board, this 20"x20" panel has golds, blacks, browns, and whites within it.  Contemplating the concept of Interstice (the space in between), I'm adding color to the bands to see what happens when it is added.  Be on the look out for the second in the diptych!

The Invitation

Darkened emotions
Brushing by

Calling with a
Melancholy sweetness

Beckoning an answer
Towards the void

Yielding to the fragrance
Only for a moment

Just long enough
To decline

Release

The awaited calm
Within the serenity
Of quieted voices
Remains

Lightened shoulders
Frees the disquiet
Of the anxious
And disheartened

Embracing the light
From the darkness
The glow of hope
Begins to arise

Breathing in
Brings an offering
Of blessed release

Sacred Space

Within the space
Of learning to
Listen and remain

Comes a stillness
That speaks louder
Than words

Calms the ire
And silences
The cries

Settles into the sacred
And whispers

Holy, holy, holy

A Reminder

9/11/15

A Reminder

Crisp and clear
The brightness
Fills the day

Once remembering
Memories of
Sadness and tears

A bird flies
A dog barks
A cat sneaks in the grass

A gentle reminder
Of awakened hope
9/11/15

Remembrance

Vivid reminders
Of screams and tears

Dust and debris
And crunching metal

The ache now renewed
Like a peeled off scab

Revisits the ghosts

Of memories past
