Deepening the Mystery

Image
“The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery.”  Francis Bacon I love this quote from Francis Bacon.  It speaks of the vocation of the arts and artist.  To deepen the mystery is to tap into the spirit of the artist and transform that into a visual representation of what that spirit says and is.  How do you hold mystery and show it in a work of art? 'Interstice - Monochrome VII', a Contemporary Abstract Piece by Colorado Encaustic Artist, Susan M. Gibbons

Image
Interstice - Monochrome VII Encaustic on Cradled Board 36" x 36" x 1.5" $2800 The last in the Interstice - Monochrome Series, this piece plays with the concept of Interstice (the space in between).  The bands of black and white accentuate the contrast between them with subtleties within the black and white.  The edges play a crucial role as the values morph into each other.  Using the medium of encaustic (bees wax with damar crystals and pigment), the medium allows for the organic feel of the planes of value as they meet each other.   For purchase information, please contact me at smgibbonsfineartist@gmail.com To see more of my work, please visit http://www.susanmgibbons.com

'The Arrival of Li Po', an Encaustic Abstract Piece by Colorado Contemporary Artist, Susan M. Gibbons

Image
'The Arrival of Li Po'  Encaustic on Cradled Board  30" x 30" x 1.5"  $2700  This piece is based on a poem written by Denver, CO artist, Wayne A. Gilbert titled,  Waiting for Li Po .  The colors are representative of the Tang Dynasty, the period when Chinese poet, Li Po actually lived.  Using the richness of different colors of gold, green, and red, the encaustic (bees wax with damar resin crystals and pigment) compliments each other and brings out the subtleties within them.   For purchase information, please contact me at  smgibbonsfineartist@gmail.com To see more of my work, please visit my website at  http://www.susanmgibbons.com
